My Take...

Best Civil War Ever?

The Civil War in 2008 was at Corvallis. It was a Civil War with huge implications. If the Beavers won, they would go to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 44 years. Both teams were 8-3. The Ducks were ranked 19th. The Beavers 17th.

The Ducks won 65-38, ending a two-year losing streak, and one of the signature plays was Ducks running back Jeremiah Johnson breaking free for an 83-yard touchdown run. The play came late in the first half with the Ducks facing a 3rd-down-and-19. Johnson broke three tackles and did a tight-rope act down the right sideline to give the Ducks a 30-10 lead. On Oregon State's next possession, quarterback Lyle Moevao on first down threw an interception that Walter Thurmond III returned for a touchdown. When it was all over, Johnson had finished with 219 yards rushing, the most in Civil War history. And the world was once again in its proper order.

Another Civil War is upon us. It doesn't matter the records. It doesn't matter that a Rose Bowl - or MNC [Mythical National Championship] spot is not on the line. This is the CIVIL WAR ... And we will be watching.
