The Final Four is here in the
NFL. And I am conflicted.
It's San Francisco vs. Seattle
in the NFC Championship Game and
Denver vs. New England in the AFC Championship Game.
OK. so it's.....
- the old-guard quarterbacks in the AFC game, and
the new upstarts at quarterback in the NFC
- the passers in the AFC, and the running game and
defense in the NFC
It might as well be the AFL and
the NFL. Seems this is how it's supposed to be.
Will Denver's Peyton Manning go
to his third Super Bowl and be the first QB to win a
Super Bowl with two different teams? Will New
England's Tom Brady play in his sixth? Can the 49ers
go to back-to-back Super Bowls? Will Russell Wilson
get to his first?
But forget the normal, rational,
common reasons for pulling for a franchise. I am
looking at contributions to each team by Oregon
players to help me decide who to root for.
So it seems New England has the
most Oregon contributions and Denver the least.
In the NFC it could be argued that San Francisco has
the most Oregon contributions and Seattle the least
although how do you measure a Pro Bowl-caliber
center's stats in Max Unger?
Ordinarily, I'd be pulling for the
49ers to beat Denver in the Big Game. Staying
with my premise above it looks like the Niners will be
beating New England instead.
