Oregon Bowl Game History: 1917 - 2016

 Oregon played in just seven bowl games before 1990, but with the bowl schedule massively expanding in recent decades the game December 2017 - The Las Vegas Bowl - would be its 24th since then.

Oregon Ducks Bowls: 1917 - 1963

Civil War - 19121917 Rose Bowl: Oregon beat Pennsylvania 14-0 on Jan. 1, 1917. Shy Huntington had three interceptions to help lead the Ducks to the victory under coach Hugo Bezdek. With the win, Oregon finished the season 7-0-1.

1920 Rose Bowl: Oregon lost 7-6 to Harvard on Jan. 1, 1920. Oregon’s Skeet Manerud missed a dropkick in the fourth quarter, giving Harvard the victory. The Ducks, under coach Shy Huntington, finished the season 5-2-0.

1949 Cotton Bowl: Oregon lost 21-13 to Southern Methodist University on Jan. 1, 1949. Norm Van Brocklin and the Ducks fell short against Heisman Trophy winner Doak Walker and SMU. Walker threw for 79 yards and rushed for 66. Oregon finished the season 9-2-0 under coach Jim Aiken.

Civil War - 19561958 Rose Bowl: Oregon lost 10-7 to Ohio State on Jan. 1, 1958. The Ducks’ upset bid fell just short against the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes. Oregon finished the season 7-4-0 under coach Len Casanova.

1960 Liberty Bowl: Oregon lost 41-12 to Penn State on Dec. 20, 1960. The Ducks were overwhelmed by Penn State, which scored 21 points in the second quarter and 20 points in the fourth quarter. The Ducks finished the season 7-3-1 under coach Len Casanova.

1963 Sun Bowl: Oregon beat Southern Methodist University 21-14 on Dec. 31, 1963. H.D. Murphy had two interceptions to help the Ducks win their first bowl game since the 1917 Rose Bowl. Under coach Len Casanova, the Ducks finished 8-3-0.  

Oregon Ducks Bowls: 1989 - 1999

Civil War - Program (1926)1989 Independence Bowl: Oregon beat Tulsa 27-24 on Dec. 16, 1989. Playing in their first bowl game in 26 years, the Ducks outscored Tulsa 10-0 in the fourth quarter for the comeback win. Quarterback Bill Musgrave had two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, and Oregon finished the season 8-4-0 under coach Rich Brooks.

1990 Freedom Bowl: Oregon lost 32-31 to Colorado State on Dec. 29, 1990. Playing in a bowl game for the second consecutive season, the Ducks missed a late two-point conversion. Oregon finished the season 8-4-0 under coach Rich Brooks

1992 Independence Bowl: Oregon lost 39-35 to Wake Forest on Dec. 31, 1992. Playing in a bowl game for the third time in four seasons, the Ducks lost a shootout to Wake Forest. Oregon finished the season 6-6-0 under coach Rich Brooks.

1995 Rose Bowl: Oregon lost 38-20 to Penn State on Jan. 2, 1995. Playing in their first Rose Bowl since 1958, the Ducks were overmatched by an unbeaten Penn State team featuring running back Ki-Jana Carter, who had an 83-yard touchdown run. Oregon finished the season 9-4-0 in Rich Brooks’ last year with the program. 1996 Cotton Bowl: Oregon lost 36-6 to Colorado on Jan. 1,

1996 Cotton Bowl: Colorado had all the big plays and handed the Ducks their fourth straight bowl game loss. Oregon finished the season 9-3-0 under first-year coach Mike Bellotti.

Civil War - 19411997 Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon beat Air Force 41-13 on Dec. 20, 1997. Akili Smith, Pat Johnson and Saladin McCullough all made big plays for the Ducks as they won a bowl game for just the second time in 34 seasons. Oregon finished 7-5 under Bellotti.

1998 Aloha Bowl: Oregon lost 51-43 to Colorado on Dec. 25, 1998. Smith and the Ducks lost a shootout to Colorado to finish the season with two consecutive losses. Oregon ended the season 8-4 under Bellotti. 1999 Sun Bowl: Oregon beat Minnesota 24-20 on Dec. 31,

1999 Sun Bowl: Oregon beat Minnesota 24-20 on Dec. 31, 1999. In his first bowl game, quarterback Joey Harrington connected with Keenan Howry for the game-winning touchdown for the Ducks, who finished the season 9-3 under Bellotti.  

 

Oregon Ducks Bowls: 2000 - 2008

2000 Holiday Bowl: Oregon beat Texas 35-30 on Dec. 29, 2000. Harrington had a passing touchdown, rushing touchdown and receiving touchdown to lead the Ducks. Oregon finished the season 10-2 under Bellotti.

2002 Fiesta Bowl: Oregon beat Colorado 38-16 on Jan. 1, 2002. After being denied a chance at the national championship game despite being ranked No. 2 in the nation in the two major human polls, Harrington and the Ducks cruised past Colorado. Oregon finished the season 11-1 under Bellotti. 2002 Seattle Bowl: Oregon lost 38-17 to Wake Forest on Dec. 30, 2002. The Ducks stumbled into the bowl game, and those struggles continued as Oregon’s three-game bowl winning streak ended. The Ducks finished the season 7-6 under Bellotti.

2003 Sun Bowl: Oregon lost 31-30 to Minnesota on Dec. 31, 2003. Kellen Clemens threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough for the Ducks, who finished the season 8-5 under Bellotti.

2005 Holiday Bowl: Oregon lost 17-14 to Oklahoma on Dec. 29, 2005. Brady Leaf threw an interception late in the game, sealing the Ducks' loss. Oregon finished the season 10-2 under Bellotti.

2006 Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon lost 38-8 to BYU on Dec. 21, 2006. BYU quarterback John Beck threw for 375 yards and two touchdowns, and Oregon suffered its fourth bowl game loss in a row.

Civil War - 19452007 Sun Bowl: Oregon beat South Florida 56-21 on Dec. 31, 2007. A series of injuries left the Ducks short-handed at quarterback, but Justin Roper stepped up with four touchdown passes, and running back Jonathan Stewart rushed for 253 yards to give Oregon its first bowl victory since the Harrington era. The Ducks finished the season 9-4.

2008 Holiday Bowl: Oregon beat Oklahoma State 42-31 on Dec. 30, 2008. After trailing 17-7 at halftime, the Ducks scored 21 third-quarter points to take control of the game, and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli accounted for four touchdowns. Oregon finished the season, the last under Bellotti, with a 10-3 record.  

Oregon Ducks Bowls: 2010 - 2017

2010 Rose Bowl: Oregon lost 26-17 to Ohio State on Jan. 1, 2010. After winning the Pac-10 championship, the Ducks had a 17-16 lead in the third quarter, before Ohio State rallied to win the game. Oregon finished the season 10-3 under first-year coach Chip Kelly.

2011 BCS National Championship Game: Oregon lost 22-19 to Auburn on Jan. 10, 2011. After finishing 12-0 in the regular season, the Ducks were tied with Auburn in the final seconds, before losing on Wes Byrum’s 19-yard field goal as time expired. Oregon finished the season 12-1 under Kelly.

2012 Rose Bowl: Oregon beat Wisconsin 45-38 on Jan. 2, 2012. De’Anthony Thomas had touchdown runs of 91 and 64 yards to give the Ducks their first Rose Bowl victory since 1917. Oregon finished the season 12-2 under Kelly.

2013 Fiesta Bowl: Oregon beat Kansas State 35-17 on Jan. 3, 2013. Thomas returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, and the Ducks cruised to victory. Oregon finished the season 12-1 in Kelly’s final year in the program.

2013 Alamo Bowl: Oregon beat Texas 30-7 on Dec. 30, 2013. Marcus Mariota accounted for 386 yards, and the defense had two interception returns for touchdowns for the Ducks. Oregon finished the season 11-2 under first-year coach Mark Helfrich.

2015 Rose Bowl (national semifinal): Oregon beat Florida State 59-20 on Jan. 1, 2015. Fresh off winning the Heisman Trophy, Mariota accounted for 400 yards and three touchdowns as the Ducks cruised past Florida State and into the national title game.

2015 National Championship Game: Oregon lost 42-20 to Ohio State on Jan. 12, 2015. The Ducks were down just 21-20 late in the third quarter, but Ezekiel Elliott rushed for three late touchdowns to put the game away for Ohio State. Oregon finished the season 13-2 under Helfrich.

2016 Alamo Bowl: Oregon lost 47-41 in triple overtime to TCU on Jan. 2, 2016. The Ducks jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead, but then squandered it in the second half after quarterback Vernon Adams and center Matt Hegarty both went down with injuries. Oregon finished the season 9-4 under Helfrich.

2017 Las Vegas Bowl:  Oregon Lost 38-31 to Boise St in Mario Cristobal's first game after being elevated to Head Coach when Willie Taggart bolted to Florida St after one year [2017] as Oregon's HC.
